Spotify is evolving from a platform that solely hosts podcasts to one that generates personalized audio content using AI. This new feature will allow users to create custom podcasts based on their unique prompts or ideas.

Recently, Spotify launched a command-line tool available on GitHub, enabling users to generate podcasts which they can store in their Spotify libraries. The company has indicated that a seamless podcast creation experience will soon be integrated into the Spotify app itself. Additionally, users will have the capability to set up recurring podcast briefings or create single podcasts to delve into specific topics.

Users can request tailored audio content, such as, “Give me updates on local happenings and concerts by my favorite artists,” or “Summarize economic concepts in five minutes,” allowing for a personalized listening experience.

Furthermore, users can enhance their podcasts by adding links, PDFs, and choosing different voice options. This strategy is inspired by tools like NotebookLM and ElevenLabs to provide custom podcasting opportunities on various subjects.

In addition to these features, Spotify introduced a desktop application dubbed Studio by Spotify Labs, which connects to users’ email and calendar to produce customized briefings.

Moreover, starting today, Spotify is unveiling an AI-driven Q&A feature for Premium mobile users located in the U.S., Sweden, and Ireland. This feature enables users to pose questions regarding podcast episodes or concepts mentioned during the podcast, as well as request recommendations on specific subjects. This enhancement follows the recent launch of a prompt-based feature to generate podcast playlists.

Historically, Spotify has encouraged an increase in video podcast consumption, reporting a 50% year-on-year rise for users engaged with video content. With these new features, Spotify aims to foster greater engagement by allowing users to ask questions and create podcasts around their interests, paralleling Google’s recent launch of Ask YouTube.

For content creators, Spotify is rolling out tools for managing sponsorships and brand collaborations. Additionally, there will be options for creators to implement subscription models to provide exclusive content. Other social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Snap already offer similar features for their creators.

This development is significant as it marks Spotify’s attempt to redefine user interaction within the podcast realm, shifting the focus from mere consumption to active participation in content creation. It could reshape how users engage with audio media, paving the way for more personalized and interactive listening experiences.
