The surge of short video snippets from podcasts, songs, and movies flooding social media is not coincidental. Companies have discovered that this format serves as an efficient and budget-friendly marketing strategy.

To create engaging 30 to 90-second video clips, brands and marketing firms typically enlist independent creators. However, coordinating these freelancers and strategically distributing the content poses significant logistical hurdles.

Clouted, a startup that participated in a16z’s Speedrun accelerator in 2024, is addressing these challenges by developing a system that automates both video distribution and the clipping process. It leverages a network of over 100,000 gig creators to craft clips and employs AI to identify the most effective social media platforms and target demographics for promotion.

Co-founder and CEO Justin Banusing initially applied this technology to his passion for electronic music and festival organization. A veteran DJ, he utilized Clouted to enhance the visibility of &Friends, an electronic dance music and pop-culture festival in Manila that now attracts more than 20,000 attendees.

Investor interest has surged around Clouted, which recently secured a $7 million seed funding round led by Slow Ventures, alongside contributions from Gold House Ventures, Weekend Fund, Peak XV’s Surge, and more.

In contrast to marketing tools driven solely by volume, Clouted focuses on meaningful engagement rather than just amassing clips. Its AI continually tests various formats and distribution strategies to determine which methods yield the best results, refining each subsequent campaign based on accumulated data.

Clouted operates similarly to penetration testing in cybersecurity, where various methods are employed to probe a system’s defenses. Instead of searching for vulnerabilities, its AI and network of creators analyze countless clipping and distribution strategies to establish what makes content resonate and go viral.

“Each campaign we run at Clouted enhances the speed and efficacy of the next,” Banusing shared with ToolsMixAi. “The platform discerns which formats succeed, which audiences engage, and which distribution methods yield compounding results.”

While facing competition from other startups like Overlap AI in the automated clipping domain, Banusing cites larger marketing infrastructure entities, particularly CreatorIQ and Hightouch, as his primary benchmarks. Hightouch recently surpassed $100 million in ARR, indicating that the enterprise marketing infrastructure market continues to grow. This is the area in which Clouted aims to expand.
