At the Google I/O 2026 keynote, the tech company unveiled advanced agentic features in Search. Users will now have the ability to create and manage multiple AI agents tailored to their interests. This move is a significant part of Google’s broader initiative toward developing AI systems that proactively assist users with ongoing tasks rather than merely responding to isolated queries.
Unlike conventional search engines that react only when asked, these information agents will work continuously, providing updates and insights 24/7. They aim to keep users informed without requiring repetitive searches for the same information.
Rather than simply providing links, these agents can compile data from diverse sources, clarify the significance of information, juxtapose viewpoints, and offer actionable recommendations. They are viewed as an enhancement to Google Alerts, which has been around since 2003, elevating the experience beyond mere notifications.
For instance, an investor can create an agent dedicated to monitoring specific companies, stock prices, or broader economic trends. This agent will analyze daily market movements, summarize earnings reports, notify users of significant changes, and provide relevant links for deeper exploration.

These agents can also assist with daily activities, such as tracking flight prices, following sports events, keeping abreast of breaking news, monitoring housing or job market fluctuations, and reporting on weather or traffic conditions.
To take advantage of this new feature, users can activate AI Mode in Search and issue a command such as, “Keep me updated on nearby movie tickets for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu.’” When relevant information arises, a push notification will be sent through the Google app. Users can also view a history of tracked topics in AI Mode, where they can manage and refine their alerts.
These information agents are expected to launch this summer, starting with Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the U.S., with plans to expand to other regions later.
In tandem with these agents, Google introduced a significant redesign of Search, highlighting a revamped “intelligent search box,” marking the most notable change in over 25 years. This new interface accommodates longer, conversational queries and features an AI-driven query suggestion system that enhances traditional autocomplete, empowering users to make more nuanced and context-aware searches.

This update is important as it marks a shift in how users interact with search technology. By allowing AI agents to manage ongoing inquiries proactively, Google is redefining user expectations and enhancing the overall search experience, paving the way for more personalized and efficient information retrieval.
