Privacy will be a major theme when Apple unveils a new version of Siri at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

The imminent relaunch of Siri is viewed as Apple’s opportunity to reaffirm its position in the competitive landscape of artificial intelligence. Executives plan to present their commitment to user privacy, claiming it sets them apart from many other firms in the sector, Gurman reported.

Reports indicate that Apple is set to introduce its first standalone Siri application, enabled by Google Gemini, which will provide an interactive chatbot functionality akin to ChatGPT. However, this new app is expected to impose stricter limitations on the duration and retention of user data compared to its rivals.

Specifically, Gurman mentioned that users might have the option to delete their chat history automatically within 30 days, after a year, or retain their data indefinitely, paralleling features found in the Messages application.

Furthermore, it has been suggested that Apple’s focus on privacy could be a strategy to mitigate concerns over Siri’s performance relative to its competitors, possibly diverting attention from the fact that Google manages part of the security framework.

This news is significant as it highlights Apple’s attempt to reclaim leadership in AI technology while addressing growing consumer concerns over privacy. The effectiveness of this strategy could influence user trust and drive adoption of the new Siri app amidst fierce competition.
