Growing Consumer Interest in Anthropic’s Claude AI

Recent data from credit card analysis firm Indagari reveals a notable uptick in consumers opting for Anthropic’s Claude AI.

This uptick indicates that Anthropic is attracting a broader clientele than traditionally perceived, which has mainly centered around enterprise and startup developers utilizing Claude Code.

Indagari’s analysis is based on billions of anonymized credit card transactions from approximately 28 million consumers across the U.S. Although this data doesn’t provide exact figures regarding Anthropic’s revenue or customer numbers, the sample is substantial enough to identify significant trends.

Ultimately, these trends show a clear upward trajectory for Anthropic.

The data examined spans weekly transactions from 2025 to May 10, 2026, covering payments for subscriptions and API tokens. It indicates a steady increase in both Claude’s consumer base and revenue, with a month-on-month rise of about 75% since January 2026.

Remarkably, this growth did not wane even after the firm experienced a significant surge in March, following its decision to prohibit its models from being utilized for mass surveillance by the Trump Administration.

Another indicator of the surge in Claude’s popularity is shown through DataCamp, an online platform focused on teaching AI skills with around 20 million users.

Interest in Claude among DataCamp users has skyrocketed since the year began, with “Claude” emerging as the most searched term, outpacing “AI” itself, as reported to ToolsMixAi.

While ChatGPT remains a popular choice for corporate training, among self-directed learners, demand for Claude courses has surged threefold. In fact, course interest has risen an astonishing 18 times in just the past month.

Nevertheless, despite Claude’s impressive growth, ChatGPT continues to dominate the consumer AI landscape on all fronts.

According to recent findings from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower, while Claude has shown strong growth across various platforms this year, it still lags significantly behind ChatGPT.

Although ChatGPT’s recent growth appears to be slowing, largely owing to its vast existing user base, Indagari’s data shows it still maintains a significantly larger number of paying subscribers.

Yet, a clear trend shows Claude is increasingly capturing consumer interest, reflected in higher revenue and brand awareness.

As both OpenAI and Anthropic prepare for potential public offerings, the scrutiny surrounding their business foundations is intensifying.

Additionally, the ramifications of Anthropic’s recent conflict with the U.S. government remain uncertain. Earlier this month, the government prohibited Anthropic from allowing its proprietary, cybersecurity-focused models, Mythos 5 and Fable 5, to be accessed by anyone outside the U.S. This has resulted in the temporary market withdrawal of these models.

Nevertheless, emerging data suggests Anthropic continues to grow its base among both consumers and enterprise clients.

Anthropic has chosen not to comment on these developments.
