Meta is set to embark on testing a new AI-driven pendant in the upcoming year, as indicated by a memo accessed by The Information.
This innovative device appears to evolve from the efforts of Limitless, an AI technology firm acquired by Meta at the close of 2025. Limitless previously created an AI pendant that could attach to a garment or serve as a necklace, capturing user conversations. Meta suggested that this acquisition was a strategic move to “accelerate our work to build AI-enabled wearables.”
Past attempts at AI wearables have struggled to gain traction with consumers — possibly due to issues related to privacy and marketing missteps, or simply because they lacked practical utility. Nevertheless, companies like OpenAI continue to persevere.
The memo also outlines plans for expanding its range of AI glasses and introducing a subscription service known as Wearables for Work. Through these initiatives, Meta seems keen on revitalizing the beleaguered hardware division of Reality Labs, which sustained a loss of $4 billion in the first quarter of the current year.
